Outliers - the formula for success by Kai Neumann

A limit to qualitative models is that they cannot show multiplicative effects. A famous example is the formula for successful people (see also M. Gladwell's "Outliers"). According to this our success is the multiplication of hard work, talent and luck. No luck, no success. Little talent, little success despite all effort and even luck.  Similar argumentation: http://www.greattransition.org/publication/whats-luck

PiM: Optimal Parameter for Service Process by Kai Neumann

This is just a small model to show how PROCESS iMODELER (PiM) factors can be included in quantitative models. In this case it is a service and the question how many resource are optimal in order to satisfy the customers without becoming too expensive. Thus the Number of Resources is modeled with a range() function.

Solution: A healthy environment on earth by Kai Neumann

A model exploring the challenge of less pollution This model is part of a series of models that could serve as examples for small models on global challenges as they could be modeled by pupils. Of course, depending on their age and the time that is available as well as the help you offer they could come up with more details. What is the model asking? The model asks for the measures for a healthier environment using the KNOW WHY Questions from the KNOW WHY Method as they show up when we use the iMODELER. I...

Are Resource Costs Macroeconomically seen Costs? by Kai Neumann

In many of my client's models and I have to admit in some of my own as well the depletion of resources simply leads to an increase of resource prices which decreases spending power and competitiveness. But if we widen our system's boundary we can at least put into perspective this view. This qualitative model shows why.

Solution: Energy by Kai Neumann

what do we need energy for? ... an unfinished model for inspiration for modeling with children.

Solution: driving cars by Kai Neumann

A model explaining some of the obstacles of the transformation towards electric vehicles (EVs) This model is part of a series of models that could serve as examples for small models on global challenges as they could be modeled by pupils. Of course, depending on their age and the time that is available as well as the help you offer they could come up with more details. What is the model asking? The model asks for the development of the uses of gasoline cars and electric vehicles (EVs) using the KNOW WHY Q...
